| Born in California to a mother with a Masters Degree in Art, Stoney was exposed to creativity from a young age but it wasn’t until he got to high school that he realised his urge to see art in everything he did. Free time was mostly spent outdoors; surfing, cycling or skateboarding the local pools and parks – a central pat of his life that still lives on today. He traveled the USA extensively from a very young age competing in national triathlon events and in 2004 he had the opportunity to leave America; traveling to Europe. In 2004 he met his wife and settled down in London where he now resides. In the last 7 years his style has developed with the changing influences around him, going from the music and skate scene in California to the immensely different cultures and styles of England and the rest of Europe. The European Street Art culture has inspired him to explore the world of stencils and spray paint alongside traditional materials and experimental processes. Over the last 2 years his canvas of choice has predominantly been old skate decks. “It isn’t just an activity or something you do, it is so much more than that; it is a lifestyle, it is something you are… it’s like freedom. Not that I would die for skateboarding, but without it I would never really live” Stoney on skateboarding. From observation to application. Art by any means necessary. [link] |
